Recognizing the best

Every day there are new businesses popping up. Some seem to come and go quickly while others grow and thrive. What makes a business stand the test of time. Let me tell you about a few of this year's Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award Winners.

Stephan Baker Photography won in the category of "Small Business of the Year." Stephan has only lived in our community for a few years but became immediately intrigued by the natural beauty of the area. In October 2006, Stephan wrote and illustrated a book titled "Chilliwack ...Adventure Outdoors", which highlights the natural beauty of the area through colourful scenic photographs. Since its publication, he has sold more than 800 copies to businesses, tourists and local residents. His book has also been used by the City of Chilliwack, CEPCO and School District No. 33 to promote economic development and tourism in Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley. Stephan has gone above and beyond by supporting every local event and charity fundraiser. He has provided dozens of copies of his book to help raise funds in our community. "Chilliwack...Adventure Outdoors" can be found at the Chilliwack Visitor Information Centre, the Chilliwack Museum, the Blue Heron Reserve and other local stores.

Stephan also sells postcards, calendars and bookmarks of Chilliwack and works with local municipalities, businesses and farms to produce promotional materials.
